Huntsman has winning formula for ECS 2009

Huntsman is returning to Nürnberg Messe for the European Coatings Show, demonstrating that it continues to address the changing needs of coating, paint, ink and adhesive formulators across Europe. And as always, the range of new products on offer from across the corporation promises not to disappoint.

This year the design of Huntsman’s stand will also add an extra dimension to the company’s presence at the ECS. The four business divisions exhibiting at the event have put their artistic skills to the test and will be presenting their main products and applications as art objects in a gallery style setting. The art exhibits will be auctioned off at the end of the show. All funds raised will be donated to the Huntsman Cancer Foundation – a charitable organisation founded in 1995 to raise money for research, education, and treatment programmes at the Huntsman Cancer Institute.

In summary, Huntsman’s main product focus at the event will be as follows:
• Seventy-five years after its specialist business began manufacturing titanium dioxide pigments, Huntsman Pigments will promote two new products at the ECS, both of which offer customers clear manufacturing advantages.
o DELTIO™81X pigment is the first product in the company’s easy-flow DELTIO™ range to be designed specifically for the industrial coatings market. Ideal for use in applications including powder, protective, coil and automotive coatings, this pigment offers excellent resistance to weathering as well as outstanding whiteness and gloss. It also delivers added value to customers by providing benefits in enhanced flow, productivity and metering.
o TIOXIDE®TR88 pigment is a new high quality, versatile TIOXIDE® grade for both interior and exterior decorative coating applications. It provides excellent colour, opacity, and durability in a range of low VOC paint formulations, including high quality interior matt and semi-gloss emulsions, exterior wood finishes and masonry paint.

• The Huntsman Polyurethanes team will focus on a development programme that will broaden the market for polyurea spray coatings.
o By modifying the isocyanate component of a polyurea system, Huntsman can now create spray coating solutions that are more resistant to acid, can withstand solvent attack and perform better under high temperature conditions. This development is set to change the way polyurea coatings are specified in the future. Polyurea has always been known for its fast cure capabilities, thermal stability and water insensitivity. But until now it was considered less appropriate for applications where chemical resistance and resilience to high temperatures were a must; formulators would typically select epoxy or polyester solutions.

• Huntsman’s Advanced Materials team will use ECS to showcase its Specialty Components portfolio.
o Based on different chemistries like glycidylamines, dicyclopentadiene-based novolacs, polyimide and polyamidoimide resins and benzoxazines. This unique toolbox offers chemists, scientists and formulators a range of solutions for enhancing the performance of their products.
o The company will also promote a novel waterborne amine curing agent that is proved to work outside, under non-ideal conditions. Tested by the Institut fuer Korrisionsschutz in Dresden, the solution gives excellent anticorrosion protection performance in industrial on-site repair and maintenance applications. It offers several hours of pot life until the minimum film forming temperature of 6oC is reached and, when applied at temperatures between 8-10oC under relatively high humidity conditions still dries and cures well.

• Finally, Huntsman Performance Products, a leader for speciality amines, surface active materials and other speciality intermediates, will introduce at ECS:
o As the inventor of polyurea spray technology, new JEFFAMINE® amines and JEFFLINK® chain extenders to formulators.
o A green, solvent-based technology platform, which replaces more toxic materials and can be used in paints, coatings, cleaning and paint stripping applications.
o A new range of speciality surfactants and sulphosuccinate wetting agents, including a new generation of APE-free surfactants for emulsion polymerization and waterborne applications.
o In addition, the Performance Products division will also highlight its new bio-based product JEFFSOL® Glycerine Carbonate - a unique NON-VOC difunctional cyclic carbonate for coatings, solvent, polymer and personal care applications.
