The Woodlands, Texas – Huntsman Corporation (NYSE: HUN) announced it will be showcasing its spray polyurethane foam (SPF) technology at the Architect of the Capitol-Senate’s Fall Environmental and Energy Showcase, September 29, in Washington, D.C.

The event is designed to educate and promote green building initiatives and energy saving ideas to the Senate community. Attendees can learn how an energy audit can identify points of energy waste and loss in underperforming buildings, and how building owners can make improvements.

According to the Department of Energy, buildings account for approximately 40 percent of the total energy consumed in the United States. The majority of building energy use is spent on space heating and cooling, and a large fraction of that energy is lost through the building envelope due to air leakage. SPF mitigates this problem, by acting as both an effective thermal insulation material, as well as an air barrier. With SPF, buildings will typically use 30 to 50 percent less energy to heat and cool, compared to buildings insulated with traditional fibrous insulation materials. SPF can be applied in new buildings, or as a retrofit to existing buildings.

“Huntsman is honored to have been invited to participate in the Environmental and Energy Showcase,” said Monica Karamagi, marketing manager, Huntsman Polyurethanes. “SPF can help deliver significantly reduced utility costs for homeowners or facility managers. Architects should consider specifying SPF to meet more stringent building codes, as well as aggressive federal energy reduction mandates.”

The Architect of the Capitol-Senate’s Fall Environmental and Energy Showcase, which is open to the public, will take place September 29 in Room G50 at the Dirksen Senate Office Building from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. EST.
