THE WOODLANDS, Texas — Peter R. Huntsman, President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Huntsman, will be named CEO, and Jon M. Huntsman Sr., founder and chairman of Huntsman, will be named Chairman Emeritus and Director of HuntsmanClariant upon completion of a “merger of equals” with Clariant later this year or early next year.

The merger of global chemical specialty companies Huntsman and Clariant was announced earlier today in Zurich, Switzerland. The combined companies, which had sales in 2016 of $13.2 billion, will have 28,200 employees and more than 200 production and R&D sites.  Hariolf Kottmann, currently CEO of Clariant, will be named Chairman of HuntsmanClariant.

HuntsmanClariant will maintain offices in Salt Lake City, Utah, wherefrom Jon Huntsman will continue to contribute his strategic counsel and deep knowledge of the chemical industry garnered over nearly 50 years to the benefit of HuntsmanClariant.

For almost half a century, Jon Huntsman has been a prominent leader in the global chemical industry. In 1970, he formed Huntsman Container Corporation, the earliest predecessor of what today is Huntsman, headquartered in The Woodlands, Texas.  Four years later, he founded Huntsman Chemical Corporation in Salt Lake City.  Under his direction in 1994, Huntsman was formed.  Peter Huntsman became President and CEO of the corporation in 2000.

Widely recognized for his philanthropy, Jon Huntsman and his wife Karen established the Huntsman Foundation in 1989 to support cancer research, education and other programs that serve the needy. In 1995, Mr. Huntsman founded the Huntsman Cancer Foundation, a non-profit charity dedicated to fundraising for the Huntsman Cancer Institute at the University of Utah. Both foundations are large shareholders in Huntsman and will continue in that capacity in HuntsmanClariant.
